DSI welcomes new AvIAn team members!

A Welcome to Erin Anderson, our new AvIAn Project Coordinator, and Peter Sutton, our new AvIAn Metadata Associate.


Erin and Peter joined the Digital Initiatives team in June to work on the Avian Archives of Iowa Online, a digitization project supported by the Council on Library and Information Resources and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Erin grew up in Storm Lake, IA and earned her B.A. in History and English froAnderson-Erin-2x2m Gustavus Adolphus College where she gained a variety of experiences with museum and archival collections. While working on her M.A. in American Studies at the University of Wyoming, Erin worked as a collections assistant at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. She has also gained experience in project management and grant writing in previous roles at Meredith Corporation and the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.


Erin loves cooking, trying new restaurants, collecting cookbooks, and gardening, and she is a violinist for the Des Moines Community Orchestra.

Peter grew up in Indianapolis, IN and has lived on the East Coast for the last decade. He got his B.A. in History from Haverford College, his M.A. in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation or Audiovisual Archiving from NYU – Tisch School of the Arts, and is currently a Doctoral student in Library Information Science at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.


Peter likes exercise, the outdoors, cooking, and the arts (especially cinema).
