July 2017 marks the 85th anniversary of the Iowa Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (ICFWRU).

The ICFWRU was created by Jay N. “Ding” Darling as commissioner of the Iowa Fish and Game Commission. Paul L. Errington was hired to establish and lead the initial cooperative unit. The ICFWRU preceded the national development of fish and wildlife cooperative units by several years.
